UK's first permanent mobile museum to tour national collections from 2027
The UK is set to unveil its first permanent mobile museum in 2027, aimed at bringing Government Art Collection pieces to a nationwide audience. Funded by the UK’s Department of Culture, Media and Sport and the French charity Art Explora, this £800,000 project is being constructed in Telford with a design by Ab Rogers from London. The museum will feature three exhibitions annually, including one dedicated to the Government Art Collection. Collaborating institutions include the National Portrait Gallery and Leeds Art Gallery. Currently, Art Explora operates a mobile museum in Plymouth, exhibiting 'Shaped by the Sea' until September 13.
