UK Government Allocates £130 Million to Cultural Institutions Across England
More than 130 cultural organizations across England are set to receive close to £130 million from the government to help strengthen the country's cultural backbone. The largest single allocation goes to the Southbank Centre in London, which will get £10 million. Meanwhile, the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead is earmarked for £3.6 million to maintain its building ahead of its 25th anniversary in 2027. Sarah Munro, the director, emphasized the importance of this funding for the mill's upkeep. The Armitt Museum and Library in Ambleside is granted £238,098 to preserve its extensive collection, while Hartlepool's museum will use £2.5 million for urgent repairs. This funding comes from the Arts Everywhere initiative, which includes three main funds.
