UK Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy Quits X Over Misinformation Concerns

Lisa Nandy, the UK Culture Secretary, has declared her exit from Elon Musk's X platform, expressing worries about misinformation and harassment. In her last message, Nandy remarked that the platform "isn't healthy for our democracy or our communities" and prioritizes "abuse and misinformation over meaningful debate." The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) follows the Attorney General's Office as the second government entity to depart from X. Kemi Badenoch, the Conservative leader, criticized this decision, suggesting that DCMS should combat misinformation instead of "running away." Attorney General Lord Hermer justified his office's ban from X, stating it "constantly descends to racism and misogyny." Several MPs, including Layla Moran and Darren Paffey, also left X earlier this year due to concerns over its Grok AI tool. Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer accused Musk of inciting division after the murder of student Henry Nowak, which led to protests in Southampton. Nandy plans to remain active on Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
