UK Charity Launches Modular Playground Initiative for Children in Crisis Zones

A new UK-based charity called Playrise has been established to provide modular timber playground equipment for children in disaster and conflict areas. Founded by photographer Alexander Meininger, the initiative aims to support displaced families, including those from Ukraine to Ethiopia, by offering flatpack climbing frames and play furniture. Meininger, originally from Germany and now residing in London, was inspired to act after observing the impact of the Ukraine war on infrastructure and children's well-being. His personal experience as a parent, watching his sons enjoy playgrounds, led him to initially build an indoor treehouse, which later evolved into this charitable project. The launch occurred this week in London, focusing on creating joy and normalcy for the many children affected globally, with statistics indicating one in six children worldwide is impacted by war. The charity's approach involves designing portable, easy-to-assemble structures to aid in relief efforts, emphasizing the importance of play in challenging environments.
