Uffizi to Present Major Exhibition on Lorenzo de' Medici in 2026

The Uffizi Galleries in Florence will host a significant exhibition titled 'Magnifico 1492' from November 2026 to February 2027 at Palazzo Pitti, focusing on Lorenzo de' Medici, known as Lorenzo the Magnificent. The show aims to reconstruct the extensive Medici family collection as it existed in 1492, the year of Lorenzo's death, featuring over a hundred works including paintings, sculptures, vases, gems, cameos, coins, manuscripts, and maps. This exhibition seeks to highlight Lorenzo's role as a key patron of the arts during the Renaissance, his influence on Florence's cultural flourishing, and his connections with notable figures like Botticelli and Michelangelo. The display will also reunite a major Western art cycle, details of which will be revealed later. Organized by the Uffizi's director Simone Verde, the event underscores Lorenzo's historical impact, linking his life to the dawn of the modern era, coinciding with the discovery of the Americas. Loans from various Italian and international museums will support the presentation, emphasizing the Medici dynasty's diverse interests and legacy.
