Uemon Ikeda Presents 'Intangible Metamorphosis' Exhibition in Rome with Butoh Performance

Japanese artist Uemon Ikeda will present a solo exhibition titled 'Metamorfosi intangibile' (Intangible Metamorphosis) at PROSA_contemporanea in Rome. The exhibition opens on April 10, 2026, at 6:30 PM and runs through April 30, 2026. Curated by Alberto Dambruoso, the show features an environmental installation created in collaboration with artist Ximena Robles, consisting of red wool and silk threads that traverse the gallery space, allowing visitor interaction. Additionally, the exhibition includes watercolor works on paper. During the opening event, a Butoh dance performance by Flavio Arcangeli will take place at 7:30 PM, engaging with Ikeda's installation. The exhibition is supported by The Japan Foundation and the Fondazione Italia Giappone. Ikeda, born in Kobe in 1952 and based in Rome since the 1970s, blends Eastern and Western influences in his conceptual practice, which spans painting, installation, and writing. His recent work includes site-specific installations at historical locations such as Rome's Pyramid of Cestius and Naples' Royal Palace. PROSA_contemporanea, located at Via Marin Sanudo 24 in Rome, is a multidisciplinary space focusing on contemporary art and design. The exhibition is part of Ikeda's ongoing engagement with Italian institutions, following his participation in a group show at the Museo Venanzo Crocetti celebrating the 160th anniversary of the Italy-Japan Treaty of Friendship.
