UCCA to Establish First Southern China Branch in Guangzhou Through Partnership

The Ullens Center for Contemporary Art (UCCA) in Beijing has revealed plans to launch a new facility in Guangzhou, marking its inaugural expansion into southern China. This venture, named UCCA OneM Center for Contemporary Art, results from a collaboration between UCCA and Guangzhou's OneM Center for Contemporary Art. According to a statement from Kong Lingyi, CEO of UCCA and the UCCA Foundation, Guangzhou's dynamic and welcoming atmosphere makes it an ideal location for contemporary art initiatives. The institution aims to strengthen ties with local artists and audiences while promoting high-quality art. UCCA has previously established satellite locations in other Chinese cities such as Beidaihe, Shanghai, and Yixing City. The new center will focus on encouraging discussions within the contemporary art scene of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Its programming will reflect local contexts while incorporating global viewpoints, with some exhibitions being shared or jointly developed with other UCCA venues. Scheduled to open in 2027, UCCA OneM will occupy the existing OneM site in the Pazhou Central Business District Cluster. The building's architecture draws from the 'Dance of the Pearl River' theme and includes a distinctive red spiral staircase, which holds a Guinness World Record for being the largest unsupported staircase of its type.
