Two arrested over suspected arson in Fontainebleau forest fire

On Monday, France's interior minister, Laurent Nunez, revealed that two individuals have been apprehended regarding a fire in the Fontainebleau forest, located near Paris. These arrests are part of a broader initiative, with a total of 59 individuals taken into custody nationwide for either intentional or unintentional arson amid the ongoing heatwave that has led to wildfires. Nunez mentioned on France2 television that there were around 10 points of ignition within a 1,000-metre radius, indicating potential deliberate action. The fire, which broke out on Sunday in the historic hunting ground about 60 km southeast of the capital, has spread rapidly, covering nearly 1,000 hectares (over 2,470 acres) by Monday afternoon and prompting evacuations.
