Trump Proposes 47-Story Presidential Library Tower in Miami

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has unveiled plans for a 47-story presidential library in Miami, Florida. The project, announced in late March 2026, features a glass and gold tower designed by the architectural firm Bermello Ajamil & Partners. The building's height corresponds to Trump's status as the 47th president and includes notable elements such as a monumental escalator, gold statues, and a replica of Air Force One in the lobby. The proposed site covers approximately 10,640 square meters adjacent to the Freedom Tower, a National Historic Landmark that served as a Cuban refugee center from 1962 to 1974. The land, previously owned by Miami Dade College, was transferred to the state of Florida in September 2025 before being acquired by the Trump foundation. This transfer has prompted legal challenges under Florida's Sunshine Law, with critics alleging insufficient transparency regarding the public land's conveyance to a private entity. Funding for the estimated $67 million project is expected to come from donations and settlements with digital platforms, according to Trump associates. The Trump foundation aims to raise nearly $1 billion in donations, having collected about $50 million in 2025 with targets of $300 million in 2026 and $600 million in 2027. The proposal emerges amid Miami's competitive high-rise construction landscape, where projects like the Waldorf Astoria Miami and Okan Tower exceed 70 stories and $300 million budgets. By comparison, previous presidential libraries cost approximately $57 million for Ronald Reagan, $165 million for Bill Clinton, and over $600 million for Barack Obama.
