Trema Arquitetura and Gabriel Sepe Renovate Brutalist Home in São Paulo's Sumaré Neighborhood

A residential renovation project in São Paulo's Sumaré district has been completed by Trema Arquitetura and architect Gabriel Sepe. The project involved transforming an existing single-family house originally built with brutalist architectural features. The original structure displayed exposed concrete construction, monolithic granilite flooring, and visible brick enclosures. Situated on a steeply sloped site, the building spans four staggered levels that take advantage of the topography to offer panoramic views of Pico do Jaraguá. The renovation maintains the expressive materiality of the original design while updating the residence. The project was curated by Susanna Moreira, with Raphael Souza and Gabriel Sepe serving as lead architects. Construction was handled by RX Pinturas, and photography documenting the completed work was provided by Manuel Sá. The architectural area covers 300 square meters, with the project finalized in 2025. This residential architecture project represents contemporary interventions in São Paulo's built environment, preserving distinctive brutalist characteristics while adapting the home for modern use.
