Toulouse's BBB Art Center Closes Permanently After Judicial Liquidation

The BBB art center in Toulouse has permanently closed following a judicial liquidation ordered by the Toulouse court on February 16, 2026. The contemporary art institution, which had operated for 33 years, faced insurmountable financial difficulties stemming from reduced funding from the French state, the Occitanie region, and Toulouse city government. Despite attempts at restructuring through economic model changes, artistic project evolution, and partnership searches, no viable solution emerged. During its existence, BBB supported over 2,000 artists through exhibitions, creative residencies, and professional training programs. It was one of only two French art centers offering professional training cycles for artist-authors, alongside 40mcube in Rennes. The closure leaves a significant gap in Toulouse's contemporary art landscape, despite other existing venues like Les Abattoirs and newer artist-run spaces.
