Toronto's Line 5 Metro Opens with 15 Underground Stations Designed by Arcadis-Led Team
In February, Toronto inaugurated its 19-kilometre Line 5 – Eglinton metro, which boasts 15 underground stations crafted by Arcadis and AtkinsRéalis, alongside input from Daoust Lestage Lizotte Stecker, NORR, and Dialog. These stations, intended to harmonize with their surroundings, feature various designs, including corner, embedded, and pavilion styles. Construction commenced in 2011 after planning began in the 2000s, experiencing delays of up to six years. This line ranks among the longest underground metro systems established in Canada or the U.S. during the 21st century. It connects several train lines, shortens travel times, and provides access to Toronto Pearson Airport, with Metrolinx overseeing the project and Gh3* handling the design, supported by Infrastructure Ontario and Crosslinx Transit Solutions.
