Top Architecture Studios Embrace AI for Design and Administration

ai-technology · 2026-08-26

A Dezeen survey reveals that 25 of 26 leading architecture studios worldwide are actively encouraging the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in their practices, with applications ranging from design generation to administrative tasks. The studios include SOM, Foster + Partners, Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA), Heatherwick Studio, HOK, OMA, Morphogenesis, Snøhetta, and MAD. Only Bofill Taller de Arquitectura among those approached is not using AI. The survey found that AI is used for early-stage design, image generation, project research, and documentation, with many studios developing in-house AI systems for data privacy. Claude.ai, an LLM by Anthropic, is the most popular tool, used by 44% of respondents, followed by ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot (24% each), and Gemini (used by eight studios). For image generation, Gemini's Nano Banana is favored. While most studios encourage AI use, only 19 have established formal AI policies, with concerns about data privacy, confidentiality, and intellectual property. Some studios, like CF Møller, urge caution due to cost and environmental impact. Despite the enthusiasm, leaders emphasize that AI enhances but does not replace human creativity, as noted by OMA's David Gianotten and White Arkitekter's Peter Leuchovius. The survey also highlights that AI has reduced Photoshop usage by 80% at CF Møller and democratized high-end visualization, according to Hassell's Xavier De Kestelier.
