Toda embroidery exhibition 'Nilgiri Threads' opens in Mumbai

The exhibition 'Nilgiri Threads - The Art of the Toda' brings Toda embroidery to Mumbai's Gallery 47, featuring 40 art panels alongside linens and saris from Nilgiri hamlets. Curated by Ramya Reddy and Coonoor & Co., the show highlights the intricate geometric patterns of the Toda tribe, a UNESCO-recognized Intangible Cultural Heritage. The works are created by Toda women artisans using traditional techniques passed down through generations. The exhibition aims to preserve and promote this endangered craft, offering urban audiences a glimpse into the cultural heritage of the Nilgiris. It runs from October 2024 at Gallery 47 in Mumbai.
