TIMM Architecture Completes House of Iron Doors in Georgia with Movable Steel Facade

TIMM Architecture, a Georgian studio, has finished constructing a residential project called House of Iron Doors in Okrokana, a village near Tbilisi. The house features a distinctive frontage made of perforated weathered steel shutters that can be opened or closed. This design transforms conventional perimeter walls into an architectural feature, aiming to create an experiential element rather than a mere barrier. The structure has an L-shaped layout, elevated slightly above ground, with a large glazed living area facing the street. When the steel panels are shut, they provide privacy and protection while allowing light to enter through small circular holes. Opening them merges interior and exterior spaces, making the home feel like a pavilion. The perpendicular section contains two floors of bedrooms, and a rooftop terrace with a swimming pool is accessible above the living area. A basement level includes a garage, games room, and storage. The studio selected weathering steel for its durability and monolithic appearance, contrasting with the minimal, monochromatic interiors. The project reinterprets typical suburban fences as architectural expressions, focusing on the relationship between walls, facades, and gardens.
