TICK TACK Exhibition Examines Public Art Conservation and Display Dynamics

The exhibition 'Nothing New Under the Sun' by TICK TACK investigates the complex relationship between art preservation and public accessibility. Organized in partnership with the Collection Flemish Community, the project involves seven curators from KASK's Curatorial Studies program. The display originates from the Collection Flemish Community's storage facility in Vilvoorde, highlighting how artworks transition between protected storage and public exhibition spaces. Currently presented in Antwerp, the show brings pieces from this extensive public collection into temporary public view. The Collection Flemish Community functions as a repository that maintains, conserves, and loans artworks to various cultural institutions across Flanders. This initiative is supported by the Department Culture, Youth and Media. A central theme explores how light exposure—both natural and artificial—poses significant risks to art materials, leading to deterioration such as color fading and structural damage. The exhibition underscores the inherent tension between preserving artworks for future generations and making them available for contemporary public engagement.
