Threads of Heritage: Batima Zaurbekova Retrospective at Kasteyev Museum

The Abylkhan Kasteyev National Museum of Arts in Almaty is currently showcasing "Threads of Heritage," a major exhibition honoring Batima Zaurbekova's 80th birthday. Running from September 25 to November 8, 2026, this event features more than 80 works, including tapestries, paintings, and graphic art, drawn from the museum's collection and Zaurbekova's family archive. Curated by Alina Fedorovich, the exhibition highlights Zaurbekova's crucial contribution to the evolution of tapestry as a modern art form in Kazakhstan. Emerging during the late twentieth century, the Kazakh tapestry school combines traditional carpet techniques with contemporary art, with Zaurbekova's pieces being central to this movement. The exhibit seeks to attract both local and international audiences, emphasizing the importance of preserving Kazakhstan's artistic heritage.
