Thought Parallels Architecture Creates Ananda House in Kerala with Vernacular Influences
Thought Parallels Architecture has completed the Ananda residence in Kerala, India, designed for a couple living in the United States who wanted a home near their family origins. The project reinterprets traditional regional architecture through contemporary methods, featuring a prominent coconut wood roof, red brickwork, mangalore clay tiles, teak wood, and carved fretwork panels. The design includes a double-height central space with a spiral staircase, fully glazed northern walls, and two ensuite bedrooms. Architects Nikhil Mohan and Shabna Nikhil aimed to blend local craftsmanship with modern sustainability, using coconut wood as an eco-friendly alternative to teak.
