The Sea, The Sea expands into bistro and seafood bar in Chelsea
The Sea, The Sea, a fishmonger on Chelsea's Pavilion Road, has moved to larger premises at 243 Pavilion Road, London. The new space features a 40-cover bistro upstairs, a 28-seat terrace, and a seafood bar for 10 diners in the shop. Designer Benjamin Wilkins, who worked on the original, created a space blending utilitarian seafood industry aesthetics with natural beauty and guest comfort. The downstairs shop evokes a fish market with weathered timber, textured plaster, stainless steel, and bright lighting, while the bistro's pitched ceiling suggests a fishing boat hull. Art by Patrick Caulfield and Alexander Massouras adorns the walls. Founder Alex Hunter supplies top London restaurants including two-Michelin-starred Ikoyi and one-star Kol. Head chef Nick Marsden, formerly of Dovetale, Pitt Cue, and The Laughing Heart, offers dishes like pickled Fowey mussels, grilled Cornish lobster with vin jaune sabayon, and whole plaice with wild garlic. The shop also sells takeaway lunch boxes with sashimi sets, shellfish rolls, miso black cod, and Singapore chilli crab.
