Teresa Gancedo's Artistic Journey and Current Exhibition in Olot

Teresa Gancedo, born in 1937 in Tejedo del Sil, León, continues her artistic practice at age 89, working daily from her Barcelona studio. Her career gained significant recognition when she was included in the 1980 exhibition 'New Images of Spain' at New York's Guggenheim Museum, which introduced contemporary Spanish artists to American audiences following the Franco era. Gancedo's work explores spiritual, natural, and mysterious themes through painting, drawing, collage, ceramics, and sculpture, creating what critics describe as a delicate, poetic visual language. She is currently featured in the exhibition series 'Verònica. Dones visionàries' at Fundació Vayreda in Olot, curated by Natàlia Chocarro, through April 12. Her works are held in major institutions including the Guggenheim Museum in New York, Museo Reina Sofía in Madrid, MACBA in Barcelona, and MUSAC in León. In an interview, Gancedo discussed her childhood in rural León, where her grandfather's woodworking inspired her artistic sensibility, and her artistic education under painter José Beulas. She studied Fine Arts in Barcelona, taught at the university level until retirement, and maintains a practice focused on personal expression rather than commercial concerns.
