ai-technology · 2026-06-05

Tencent's chief AI scientist Yao Shunyu dismissed concerns that the company is lagging in artificial intelligence, arguing the race is just beginning. Speaking at Tencent's Cloud AI Industry Applications Summit on Friday, Yao compared the current state of AI to personal computer development in the 1970s. He stated that ChatGPT and Claude Code will not be the only super apps, as new opportunities will emerge in coding agents, multimodal AI, and embodied intelligence. Yao acknowledged that detours and setbacks are normal in early LLM and AI product exploration, but stressed the importance of honesty about shortcomings and patience in adjustments.
