Team BLDG Renovates Rural Homes into The Catcher Guesthouse Near Shanghai
Chinese architecture firm Team BLDG has transformed two existing rural houses into The Catcher guesthouse, located near Xinchang in Shanghai's Pudong district. The 11-bedroom accommodation incorporates three new connecting volumes and a perimeter wall while preserving much of the original structures. Lead architect Xiao Lei explained the design emphasizes harmony with the natural landscape through simplified facades, local materials like wood, stone, and bamboo, and traditional construction methods. The project, completed with budget constraints, features pathways linking indoor and outdoor areas, private outdoor spaces for each room, and a minimalist interior palette aiming for authenticity and connection to nature.
