TC 175 Monograph Surveys Two Decades of Moneo Brock Architecture
The 175th issue of TC, published on September 25, 2026, is devoted to the international studio Moneo Brock, founded in New York in 1993 by Belén Moneo and Jeff Brock and based in Madrid since 2002. Across 320 pages, the monograph gathers built work from 2007 to 2026, spanning urban infrastructure, educational facilities, leisure spaces, domestic architecture and object design, with projects in Spain, Mexico, Colombia and the Dominican Republic. Three critical essays frame the selection. Stan Allen examines the studio's commitment to public space and architecture's collective dimension, tracing how each building converses with its site and surroundings. Manuel Blanco reads the practice through the Vitruvian concepts of utilitas, firmitas and venustas, adding sustainability as a fourth condition running through the work. Marisa Santamaría discusses the studio's object design and the cultural space _2B, an extension of the office that has operated for more than a decade as a laboratory for interdisciplinary exchange. Materiality, light and landscape define the architecture: coral stone walls, celosías, translucent glass blocks and exposed concrete structure space and mediate between interior and exterior, built and natural. Buildings respond to local climate, from Mallorca's sharp light to the Caribbean's tropical breeze, reconciling formal abstraction with sensory richness and a strong public vocation.
