Tate Modern to Present David Hockney's Opera Set Designs in 2027 Exhibition

The Tate Modern in London will host a major exhibition in 2027 featuring David Hockney's opera set designs. The show will occupy the museum's Turbine Hall and is planned to coincide with the British artist's 90th birthday celebrations. Hockney created eleven stage designs between 1975 and 1992 for productions of works by composers including Mozart, Wagner, and Stravinsky. Many of these designs were produced while Hockney was living in London before relocating to Los Angeles. The exhibition is part of a broader 2027 program that includes retrospectives of Sonia Boyce and Edvard Munch, plus a Claude Monet exhibition titled 'Painting Time' organized with Paris's Musée de l'Orangerie. The museum will also undergo a leadership transition that year.
