Tamron Redesigns 12-20mm f/2.8 Lens with G Master Quality Promise
Tamron has unveiled the 12-20mm f/2.8 (Model A084) ultra-wide zoom lens, designed for full-frame Nikon Z and Sony E-mount cameras. This new lens features a fresh optical design and a simplified naming approach, moving away from the "Di III VXD" label. It comes with a built-in petal-style lens hood, which eliminates the use of traditional screw-on filters but allows for rear gel filters. Measuring 119.3mm in length and weighing 570g, it is also weather-sealed. The autofocus system utilizes Tamron's VXD linear motor, achieving a minimum focus distance of 0.18m at 12mm and 0.28m at 20mm. Composed of 17 elements in 12 groups, including XGM and GM aspherical elements, the lens features a 12-bladed diaphragm with an aperture range of f/2.8 to f/16. Tamron asserts that this design minimizes peripheral blur, color fringing, and sagittal coma flare, making it ideal for astrophotography and interior shots. The company believes it is set to become the "new protagonist" in astrophotography. The lens will be available starting July 30 for $1,699.
