Takeshi Hirobe Architects completes YMK House in Karuizawa with remote work focus

Completed in 2022, the YMK House was designed by Takeshi Hirobe Architects for a client moving from urban to rural life. Located in Karuizawa, Nagano, the 205-square-meter residence sits on a sloping site with a steep eastern drop and a small stream below. The property's isolation from neighboring homes across the valley is accentuated by dense, layered trees cascading down the slope. A large picture window at the southeast corner maximizes views of this natural setting. The design team included Risa Makino, with structural engineering by Mika Araki Structural Engineers. Photography was handled by Koichi Torimura, and the project was curated by Miwa Negoro.
