Taiwan's New Cultural Institutions Reshape Regional Art Landscape

Taiwan is enhancing its cultural landscape with the launch of new municipal museums. In December 2023, the Taichung Green Museumbrary, crafted by SANAA, was inaugurated in Taichung Central Park, merging the Taichung Art Museum and Taichung Public Library. Its first exhibition, titled 'A Call of All Beings,' showcases over 90 pieces from 70 artists across 20 nations, with 70% of the works by Taiwanese creators. Featured artists include Chia-Wei Hsu, Chris Marker, Ana Mendieta, and Liao Te-Cheng. This museum aspires to record Taichung's artistic heritage and will be joined by new venues such as the New Taipei City Art Museum (set to open in April 2025) and the Taoyuan Museum of Fine Arts (2025-2028). The exhibition is available until 12 April 2024.
