Synclaire Warren: Young Activist Hosts Black Maternal Health Meetings at Gloria Steinem's Home

Synclaire Warren, a 25-year-old certified doula and activist based in New York, was nominated by Gloria Steinem for CULTURED's 2026 Young Activists list. After earning a master's in humanitarian studies, Warren develops educational toolkits and organizes events on sexual and reproductive health. She spoke at the 2024 Democratic National Convention about her abortion, and has addressed the U.N. Commission on the Status of Women. Recently, she convened a group in Steinem's living room for a conversation on Black maternal health. Warren cites The Diary of Anne Frank as her inspiration, emphasizing storytelling to foster connection. She is alarmed by the systemic disbelief Black mothers face, noting they are three to four times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes, with no significant decline in 2023. The fall of Roe v. Wade motivated her to publicly share her own abortion story via video, which became the foundation of her advocacy. Warren's work focuses on highlighting the full humanity of Black mothers rather than defining them by traumatic statistics.
