Suzanne Jackson retrospective 'What Is Love' opens at Walker Art Center

The Walker Art Center in Minneapolis is hosting 'What Is Love,' a major retrospective dedicated to artist Suzanne Jackson. This exhibit showcases her lasting dedication to using beauty as a form of political statement and features over 50 works spanning six decades. Starting her career in the late 1960s, Jackson pushed back against the expectations for Black artists in the U.S. to create overtly political, figurative art. Instead, she developed her own distinctive approach, focusing on abstract and innovative pieces. This retrospective, which was co-organized with the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) and initially opened there in fall 2025, will be available to view at the Walker from May 14 to August 23, 2026.
