SUPERFLEX Transforms Palazzo Strozzi Courtyard into Submerged Interspecies Habitat

Between April 14 and August 2, 2026, the Danish art group SUPERFLEX will showcase 'There Are Other Fish In The Sea' at Palazzo Strozzi in Florence, Italy. Curated by Arturo Galansino, this installation will convert the Renaissance courtyard into a shallow aquatic environment featuring eight pink travertine columns designed for marine life. It tackles issues related to rising sea levels and urban flooding, introducing the concept of 'interspecies architecture.' This project commemorates the 60th anniversary of the 1966 Florence flood, serving as both a site of remembrance and a speculative landscape. Following its debut in Florence, it will move to Kunsthal Spritten in Aalborg, Denmark, for its 2027 opening. The initiative is presented by Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi and Fondazione Hillary Merkus Recordati, continuing the venue's innovative courtyard program.
