Studiotopia 2 Exhibition Showcases Art-Science Collaborations Exploring Symbiocene Concepts

Studiotopia 2 is an international collaborative initiative involving eleven European cultural and scientific organizations. Coordinated across multiple institutions, this project facilitates partnerships between artists and researchers to develop interdisciplinary approaches to contemporary issues. The current phase focuses on the Symbiocene, a philosophical framework proposed by Glenn Albrecht that envisions harmonious coexistence between humans and other species. Curator Agnieszka Kulazińska from CCA Łaźnia in Gdańsk, Poland, explains that the program reverses traditional dynamics by having scientists visit artists' studios rather than artists visiting laboratories. The exhibition 'Sensitive Data of the Anthropocene' at CCA Łaźnia presents the first collective display of works from this edition, examining how scientific information can be interpreted through emotional and empathetic lenses. Featured projects include Justyna Górowska's 'BhA—Digital Art Archive in DNA,' which encodes digital art into biological storage media in collaboration with Imperial College London; Fanny Sariano's 'MU' interactive installation exploring embodied connections with nature through neuropsychological principles; Adrien Lucca's 'Parallel Worlds: Moth Vision' investigating insect perception and light pollution; Karolina Sobecka's 'Thermal Thinking' project analyzing heat as a social and biological phenomenon; and the artistic duo Sikau/Pubalova's multisensory installation 'as we synch' examining fermentation as metaphor for ecological interdependence. Additional works address topics including desertification, data visualization, and technological observation. The exhibition runs through May 24, 2026, with future presentations scheduled at venues including Bozar in Brussels, Ars Electronica Festival in Linz, Meet in Milan, and Hexagone in Grenoble during 2026-2027.
