Studio Saransh Completes PBR House in Gujarat, Exploring Materiality in Natural Setting

architecture-design · 2026-04-02

Studio Saransh, led by principal architect Malay Doshi, has completed the PBR House in 2024. The residential project is located on the outskirts of Vapi in Gujarat, India, situated within lush orchards. The 1,300 square foot family home was designed as an investigation of materials and forms, with the architects aiming to create a structure that establishes its own presence rather than merely blending into the environment. Doshi articulated that architecture should actively engage with its surroundings through considerations of mass, proportion, and material selection. The design approach focused on developing a self-contained identity for the dwelling through deliberate spatial organization and a carefully chosen material palette. The project was curated by Miwa Negoro, and photography was handled by Ishita Sitwala. The house represents a contemporary exploration of how built forms can assert themselves within natural landscapes while maintaining intimacy and timeless qualities.
