Studio Sangath Architects Design Gujarat Residence Around Ancient Sapodilla Trees

Architects Sönke Hoof and Khushnu Panthaki Hoof of Studio Sangath created a residential structure in Gujarat, India, that integrates two mature sapodilla trees as central design elements. The trees, significant to the owners' family memories, influenced the building's layout, orientation, and spatial organization. The house features a wrap-around verandah, carefully positioned windows, and a family lounge at canopy height to engage with the landscape. The design prioritizes natural light modulation through the trees' foliage and uses local materials like grey stone and teak. The project reflects an approach where architecture emerges from site conditions rather than imposing predetermined forms.
