Studio Razavi Renovates 1930s French Coastal Cabin with Central Circular Conversation Pit

Studio Razavi has completed a renovation of a 1930s coastal cabin in France, transforming it into a contemporary residence called Seaside House. Located on the Cap Ferret headland near Bordeaux, the project centers around a circular conversation pit that serves as the home's focal point. The architects, Guillen Berniolles and Michele Sacchi, explained that the design was driven by the local lifestyle of frequent indoor-outdoor movement, leading them to create an uninterrupted flow through the building. To achieve this, they removed all interior partition walls, preserving the original envelope while creating a single open living space. The sunken circular living area is surrounded by three en-suite bedrooms and includes integrated elements like a sink and storage units along its low perimeter wall. Materials include pale concrete floors, white walls, and oak carpentry, contributing to a light, airy atmosphere. A separate guest annexe clad in dark timber was added to the west. The project was documented by photographer Simone Bossi. Studio Razavi, founded by Alireza Razavi, maintains offices in London, Paris, and New York and has previously worked on residential and commercial projects in France and the United States.
