Studio Dangg Creates Tunnel-Like Bar Interior in New Delhi with Mirrors and Steel

architecture-design · 2026-03-25

Studio Dangg, led by principal architect Manav Dangg, has designed No Vacancy, a bar in New Delhi, India. The project transforms a compact, elongated site into a spatial experience centered on movement. A continuous tunnel-like enclosure draws visitors inward, with mirrored surfaces extending perception and softening spatial boundaries. A full-height mirror at one end visually doubles the depth of the space, while curved transitions soften corners. A continuous bench merges with the wall, guiding movement along the interior's length. The material palette features a warm, oxidized corten steel-inspired finish contrasted by precise stainless steel insertions. Furniture includes leather seating, bouclé backrests, and steel rims, with sage-green stools providing subtle color accents. Lighting design incorporates a concealed cove light tracing the bench, grazing textured surfaces and emphasizing curvature. Stainless steel elements diffuse light from table lamps and wall sconces, creating a layered glow. Behind the bar, backlit acrylic combined with steel mesh transforms bottle displays into luminous compositions. The space functions as a community-oriented bar with a single focal point, where DJs and vinyl artists occupy one end, allowing the crowd to orient naturally without visual fragmentation. The elongated volume supports this arrangement, fostering an intimate, boiler-room-like atmosphere where proximity intensifies sound and social interaction. The design embraces spatial limitations, prioritizes movement, and balances industrial aesthetics with warmth, demonstrating how constraints can be translated into spatial intensity. The project was documented by photographer Avesh Gaur.
