Students Curate Exhibition at Maidstone Museum Through Kids in Museums Initiative

On November 18, 2022, students from St Augustine Academy in Maidstone participated in a Kids in Museums Takeover Day at Maidstone Museum. The event involved two main activities: managing the museum's social media account for the day and selecting artworks for a temporary display. With guidance from the museum's Collections Manager and Exhibitions Officer, the pupils toured the collection, chose pieces that interested them, and wrote accompanying labels. A selection of six works was featured, including paintings by Jane Day, Vincent Henry Lines, Elizabeth Plowman, Eliza Goodwin Green, Evelyn Dunbar, and Claude Bendall. The resulting exhibition was open to the public from February to April 2023. This initiative highlights efforts to engage younger audiences in museum curation and interpretation.
