Strawberry Moon 2026: Stunning Photos from Around the World
The strawberry full moon of June 2026, the first full moon of summer, peaked at 7:57 p.m. ET on June 29. It was the lowest full moon in decades for the Northern Hemisphere, giving it a golden hue, according to EarthSky founder Deborah Byrd. The nickname comes from Native American Algonquian, Ojibwe, Dakota, and Lakota tribes marking the ripening of strawberries. This year's strawberry moon was a micromoon, the second-smallest full moon of 2026, as noted by Jamie Carter at Live Science. Photographers captured the moon behind landmarks including the Empire State Building in New York City, the Temple of Poseidon in Greece, the Imam Ali Shrine in Najaf, Iraq, and Glastonbury Tor in England. Images also came from Foster City, California; Molfetta, Italy; Abaujvar, Hungary; Srinagar, India; Hyderabad, India; Qingzhou, China; Lisbon, Portugal; Eindhoven, Netherlands; Toronto, Canada; and other locations. The moon will appear bright for a night or two before and after the peak, per Space.com's Daisy Dobrijevic. Six more full moons remain in 2026.
