Stefano Boeri Interiors Renovates Southern Piazza at Rome's Colosseum

The Italian architecture firm Stefano Boeri Interiors, led by Stefano Boeri and Giorgio Donà, has completed a renovation of a semicircular public square adjacent to the Colosseum in Rome. The project involved restoring the ground to its historical elevation and installing travertine stone paving across the area, which is situated where the ancient amphitheater's outer wall once stood before its 14th-century collapse. Forty-four stone benches, each 40 centimeters tall, have been positioned to indicate the original column locations, and Roman numerals are inlaid in the pavement to mark former gate entries. An 'archaeological window' exposes subterranean ruins. The redesign aims to evoke the structure's original architectural features and improve public comprehension of the monument's scale.
