Stedelijk Museum rehangs 1950-1980 collection to highlight underrepresented narratives
The Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam has redesigned its presentation of artworks from 1950 to 1980, focusing on themes of abstraction, spirituality, and women's contributions. Titled 'Everyday, Someday and Other Stories,' the new display combines rarely shown pieces with recent acquisitions. A dedicated feminist art section explores freedom, power, and the female body, featuring Ana Mendieta's 1972 work challenging gender norms and Magdalena Abakanowicz's 1968 piece returning after her Tate Modern exhibition. Other artists included are Lee Bontecou, Nan Hoover, VALIE EXPORT, and Martha Rosler, with Helen Frankenthaler represented in the American Abstract Expressionism section.
