Städel Museum to Showcase Max Beckmann's Drawings in 2025 Exhibition

exhibition · 2026-03-14

The Städel Museum will host a special exhibition from December 3, 2025, to March 15, 2026, dedicated to Max Beckmann's work as a draughtsman. Featuring approximately eighty pieces, many previously unseen publicly, the display traces the evolution of his graphic output from initial sketches to mature works. It includes loans from international institutions and private collections alongside the museum's own holdings, which have been enriched by recent acquisitions and long-term loans. The show coincides with the release of a comprehensive catalogue raisonné of Beckmann's drawings. This presentation aims to highlight drawing's central role in Beckmann's artistic practice and offer new perspectives on his contributions to 20th-century art.
