Spotify Opens Immersive Listening Lounge in London Headquarters

Spotify has launched a dedicated listening lounge at its London headquarters, designed as an acoustic space to showcase its lossless audio technology. The facility was created in collaboration with local studio Cake Architecture and features a custom sound system developed by London-based loudspeaker design studio Friendly Pressure. The space includes a reception area with slate floors and steel details, leading to a main listening room with brown-hued surfaces and furniture from brands like Afra and Tobia Scarpa's Soriana collection. New York acoustician Ethan Bourdeau contributed to the acoustic design, with wall patterns calibrated to disperse frequencies evenly. The audio system, created by Shivas Howard-Brown of Friendly Pressure, incorporates custom cabinets and a frosted glass waveguide horn, referencing British audio engineering from the 1960s-1980s. According to Spotify's UK and Ireland marketing head Billie Baier, the lounge aims to demonstrate streaming's full potential and foster deeper connections between fans and music. The venue will host year-round programming for Premium subscribers and top fans, launching with an event featuring UK artists Joy Crookes, Nao, and Yazmin Lacey. This project follows a broader trend of audio-focused spaces like listening bars in Sydney and London.
