institutional · 2026-10-13

Spain is preparing to unveil new art museums within refurbished historical structures, a significant move nearly 30 years after the Guggenheim in Bilbao, designed by Frank Gehry, opened on October 18, 1997. Anticipating its 30th anniversary in 2027, the Guggenheim is set to feature exhibitions by Philippe Parreno and Carmen Herrera. Recently, the Museo de Bellas Artes reopened on October 6, while Zaragoza’s Museo Goya will relaunch with "Solo Goya" this week. The Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial's Museum of Painting reopened on October 2, with new projects underway in Cuenca and Toledo as part of Spain's Sustainable Tourism Strategy 2030.
