Space Afrika Announce New Album ‘Quiet Storm’ with Glenn Ligon Cover Art

The duo Space Afrika, hailing from Manchester and Berlin, comprised of Joshua Tarelle Reid and Joshua Inyang, has unveiled their upcoming album titled Quiet Storm, which will be released on September 25 through Dais Records. Alongside this announcement, the lead single and music video, “If This Is Hell ft. Deuén,” directed by Pablo Dunkerly, has been launched. This track showcases a stream-of-consciousness style from New York artist Kaiuna Odogba (Deuén) layered over energetic, jazzy percussion. Following their praised 2021 album Honest Labour, Quiet Storm delves into themes of spirituality and the human experience, featuring contributions from various artists. The album cover incorporates Glenn Ligon’s 2009 artwork Figure #30, with Ligon also inspiring the album's title. The duo will showcase their work at various live events and exhibitions, including a sound installation at the ICA London from June 6–14, the album premiere at Blackpool Opera House on June 27, and performances at Peep Festival on July 25, Dekmantel Opening Concert at Oude Kerk Amsterdam on July 29, and supporting Autechre at Magazine London on October 24.
