Sotheby's Rock & Pop Sale Features Elvis Presley's 1968 Hagstrom Guitar and Noel Gallagher's Oasis Instrument

Sotheby's Rock & Pop Sale opens bidding this week, headlined by Elvis Presley's cherry-red Hagstrom electric guitar with a $1-2 million estimate. Presley played this instrument during his historic 1968 Comeback Special, performing songs like "Blue Suede Shoes" and "Trouble," and it appears on the cover of his 1969 album From Elvis in Memphis. Also featured is Noel Gallagher's signed Epiphone EJ-200 acoustic guitar from Oasis's (What's the Story) Morning Glory? sessions, estimated at $60,000-80,000, along with Gallagher's handwritten manuscript for "Don't Look Back in Anger." Additional rock artifacts include Bruce Springsteen's photomatched acoustic guitar used to write "Born to Run," David Bowie's handwritten lyrics for "The Jean Genie," a rare piece of Keith Moon's "Pictures of Lily" drum kit, and Elvis Presley's personal Bible. Craig Inciardi, Sotheby's Vice President and Specialist in Popular Music and Popular Culture, described the sale as a rare moment in music history, calling the instruments cultural touchstones that tell stories of their eras and artists. Bidding opens on April 9, with an exhibition of select items at Sotheby's Breuer building in New York beginning April 13.
