Sonia Costantini's Monograph 'Memoria del colore' Documents Italian Monochrome Painter's Career

Edizioni Oltrearte has published 'Memoria del colore,' a 252-page monograph on Italian painter Sonia Costantini, printed by Grafiche Antiga in October 2025. The volume documents Costantini's career as a leading exponent of contemporary color-focused painting, featuring images of her works, installation views, interviews, critical essays, and exhibition history. Curated by Luca Pietro Nicoletti, the publication situates Costantini within Italian aniconic painting traditions while noting her international recognition, including collector Giuseppe Panza di Biumo. Critical texts by Sandro De Alexandris and composer Simone Zuan analyze her technique of layering acrylic and oil to create vibrating surfaces. De Alexandris describes her painting as a slow deposition of color achieving saturation, while Zuan interprets her work through musical concepts of 'contrappunti' (counterpoints). The monograph references artistic influences from Mark Rothko to Titian and the Venetian School. Costantini, born in Mantova province where she lives and works, began exhibiting in the late 1970s and showed at Paris's Grand Palais in 1986. Her exhibition history includes venues across Italy and internationally, from Frankfurt's BCE to Los Angeles galleries. Recent shows include 'Astratte' at Villa Olmo in Como and exhibitions at Museo Diocesano di Brescia and Galleria Il Milione in Milano.
