SOMA Art Space in Marseille Unveils New Branding Featuring Tape Motif
On February 13, 2021, the design studio Quatrième Étage revealed a visual identity project developed for SOMA, a hybrid art venue situated at 55 Cours Julien in Marseille, France. The space is jointly managed by Muriel Bourdeau and Julien Herrault. The branding concept centers on a black square that symbolizes adhesive tape, a material frequently employed by artists for mounting, arranging, and exhibiting their creations. This tape element occasionally becomes integrated into the artwork itself. The graphic form is applied to the letters SOMA, conveying the notion of affixing art to the walls of the venue. This design choice establishes a connection between the physical location and its primary purpose: showcasing artistic works. The project was documented on the design website Abduzeedo.
