Soli Kiani's fabric sculptures transform Dominikanerkirche Krems

Soli Kiani, an artist originally from Iran, has designed a spatial installation for the Dominikanerkirche Krems, which is part of the Kunstmeile Krems initiative, with her solo exhibition set for 2026. Central to her work are textile materials, manifested in vertical, column-like sculptures crafted from hardened textile panels and ropes that extend from basic concrete bases. These abstract creations reflect both architectural and bodily qualities, enhancing the church nave's height and geometric precision. The sculptures reference the chador, a traditional dark Iranian cloak representing protection and limitation. Through her art, Kiani delves into themes of origin, physicality, and the navigation of patriarchal systems, utilizing fabric as a significant medium infused with social implications. The material is reinforced with acrylic medium.
