Sojourner Truth Parsons presents new paintings in Paris debut at Esther Schipper

Sojourner Truth Parsons opens her first Paris exhibition at Esther Schipper Paris, titled 'Sooner or later you will call my name.' This marks her second solo show with the gallery. The exhibition features a new suite of paintings where Parsons explores light's relationship to human perception and emotion. Her work transforms atmospheric qualities from her neighborhood, studio, and garden into emotional essences. Celestial bodies, flowers, and urban high-rises from her home city appear as anchoring forms. These elements address themes of loss, isolation, and resurgence. Parsons employs black acrylic paint to create iridescent shapes and shimmering surfaces with thin washes and tactile brushstrokes. In this new series, the structured order of her Garden paintings gives way to uneven compositions with viscous, shimmering forms arranged in novel constellations. Her practice has long connected light studies with the fantasies shaping our worldview.
