Sociotype Journal Issue 1: Editorial Design Merging Gestura Typography with Tactile Print

Sociotype Foundry, located in London, has launched the first edition of Sociotype Journal, a 224-page cultural magazine that also serves as a specimen catalog for its serif superfamily, Gestura. The journal delves into "The Gesture," examining various forms of human non-verbal communication, including street signs, sign language poetry, and NASA spacesuit gloves. The editorial design, crafted by Sociotype Foundry, features Gestura's distinct bracketed serifs and high-contrast letterforms, utilizing asymmetrical multi-column grids that alternate between dense text and ample white space. This edition includes ten cultural essays and a 28-page technical type specimen, printed in a limited run of 1,500 copies without commercial ads, and showcases the project on Behance, exemplifying modern editorial design.
