Snow Patrol's Gary Lightbody says Kylie Minogue collab was 'always destined'

Snow Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody has revealed that the band's collaboration with Kylie Minogue on the single 'These Alarms' was always intended, as he originally wrote the song with the Australian pop star in mind. Lightbody told BBC Radio Ulster's Good Morning Ulster programme that he wrote several songs after hearing Minogue was seeking new material, internally labeling them 'Kylie 1, Kylie 2, Kylie 3'. Unable to deliver the songs directly, the band recorded one themselves but felt something was missing until they successfully sent it to Minogue, who recorded vocals with her own producer. Lightbody described her vocal as 'absolutely extraordinary' and said the song felt finished for the first time. The single was released on 1 July. Lightbody also discussed Snow Patrol's recent live performances, including a show in Liverpool city centre that attracted tens of thousands, and their upcoming Edinburgh Castle date. The band is celebrating the 20th anniversary of their breakthrough album 'Eyes Open' (2006), which topped the UK Albums Chart and sold millions worldwide, featuring hits like 'Chasing Cars'. Lightbody also expressed interest in collaborating with singer-songwriter Raye, calling her voice 'the most extraordinary on planet Earth right now'.
